They say all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. If that’s indeed the case, the North American workforce is populated with people who don’t mind being a little boring. According to this poll surveying the habits of workers during vacations, 67% of executives and 26% of non-executives attend to office work a few times a week while they are taking a scheduled extended break. 33% of American executives polled claimed that they work a little bit every day during their vacations.

With the rapid advances in technology making the business world smaller, it may be more and more difficult for employees to find ways to decompress away from the office. It’s a pity to see that more often than not, people do not know how to properly utilize this important and valuable company benefit, even when they are using it. Granted, there may be situations that arise where one’s assistance and expertise must be called upon regardless of the person’s location. But unless such a fire occurs, vacations really should be used as a time to relax, renew, and re-energize, lest one jumps back into the fray with the same tired feeling he or she did before taking time off.
